Off Line Work Load Creating Problems

I haven't been keeping up with this blog as well as I planned this summer. I had hoped to get more work done on line than I have been able to accomplish. I started 3 projects earlier in the year hoping to finish them by September. I know now, this won't happen; I ended up with a lot more consulting work than I had planned for off line. Usually, I get a couple consulting jobs during the summer; this year I have already finished 5. Guess, companies are more concerned about productivity and bottom line this year than in the past 4 years. Maybe, it's because I have been able to improve bottom lines by 10 - 15% for the company's I've accepted.
I hope to get back to working online in the next month and working at home more. I'm getting a little tired of the road again. I hadn't really planned on working this much since I retired; but I found that I actually missed having to meet deadlines, evaluating and improving productivity in manufacturing plants.
It still amazes me the number of companies that are not properly organized and without specific procedures for manufacturing and assembly. They don't understand accountability, reliability, and repeatability. In many cases, they are throwing away as many dollars as they are making. This usually occurs in companies that have been in business for a few years and have outgrown their initial business plan and haven't adapted.
I know there is a large market in this area; but have been unable to perform the work from home. It seems there are just too many things to fall through the cracks without my physical presence. I may consider writing some books related to this area and see if they are marketable. The only problem I see, is that many small companies don't have the expertise available to implement the procedures required without someone holding their hand.
